Master Students visit the United Nations in Geneva

Students from the Department of Applied Social Studies, accompanied to Geneva by Marianne O’Shea & Dr Joe Larragy, meet with Anastasia Crickley, former Head of Department and current chair of UN CERD in the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights
Tuesday, January 24, 2017 - 15:30

While there they attended an important civil society consultation hosted by one of the Treaty Bodies, as well as the Ninth Session of the Forum on Minority Issues. In addition, they met with staff of the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights and expert members of the UN Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination who provided them with an overview and analysis of the important work that they do to protect and promote human rights and to monitor and challenge racism at a global level.

This visit is an important element of both masters programmes, providing a unique opportunity for students to engage with global institutions and better understand how they, in their future work in civil society, can successfully engage with these processes.
