Prof Michael Doherty has published a new piece, translated into French, in the Revue de Droit Comparé du Travail et de la Sécurité Sociale [The Comparative Law Review of Labour and Social Security]. The piece “Le « travailleur », le droit de l’UE et la négociation collective” [“The ‘Worker’, EU Law, and Collective Bargaining”] looks at the issue of how EU law has considered the notion of the « worker » in the context of debates on forms of work (including platform work), which challenge the traditional binary divide between « employee » and « self-employed ». In particular, the article assesses recent jurisprudence (of the EU Court, the Committee on Social Rights, and at national level) on the issue of collective bargaining rights for non-employees.

Prof Doherty is Head of Maynooth University Department of Law and lectures courses to all first year law students on Introduction to Law, as well as Employment Law to LLB students.
