One of our accomplished second-year LLB students, Ms. Marwa Zamir, recently showcased her inspiring journey on the Virgin Media TV show "Second Chances." Originally hailing from Kabul, Afghanistan, Marwa relocated to Ireland in 2016 due to the war. The series, hosted by Rebecca Tallon De Havilland, focuses on empowering individuals who have faced challenges, aiding them in regaining confidence, rediscovering joy, and embracing a second chance at life.

Participating in the show proved transformative for Marwa. In her own words, "I chose to be part of the show to confront and conquer my fears, learn to navigate challenges, and evolve into a more confident individual." The second episode of the series delves into Marwa's narrative, encompassing her experiences of adapting to Irish culture, overcoming childhood war trauma, navigating Direct Provision, and addressing self-insecurities, including confidence issues. She also shares her positive achievements, such as realizing her dream of studying law.

Marwa's dedication extends beyond academics; she has been actively engaged in her community since the age of fifteen. Serving as a youth leader at the Irish Refugee Council, the youngest member of the Refugee Advisory Board for UNHCR, a delegate for the National Youth Assembly, a committee member for young people at NYCI, a member of the Youth Advisory Panel for Plan International, and a participant in Goal Nextgen, Marwa seamlessly balances these roles alongside her studies at Maynooth.

Her motivation is deeply rooted in her life journey and her father's impactful work. "I was inspired by my dad's UN projects, such as building schools. His work motivated me to pursue a career in the humanitarian sector, making law my chosen field," she explains.

Marwa thoroughly enjoys her time at the School of Law and Criminology, relishing the diversity of the University, her favourite law lectures, moments spent with friends, hours in the library, and strolls around the campus. We, at the School, feel privileged to have Marwa as a valued member of our community and eagerly anticipate supporting her in her admirable career path.
