Dr Sinéad Ring has been appointed by Minister for Justice Helen McEntee TD to the Sentencing Guidelines and Information Committee of the Judicial Council. Under the Judicial Council Act 2019, the Sentencing Guidelines and Information Committee is responsible for conducting research into sentencing practice in Ireland and preparing draft sentencing guidelines for the Board of the Judicial Council. Dr Ring's appointment is for four years. Her appointment was made following an independent selection process by the Public Appointments Service.
Over the course of her career to date Dr Ring has researched and taught in diverse areas of criminal justice and criminal law. Her current research explores legal responses to non-recent sexual violence. She teaches criminal law and the law of evidence at Maynooth University Department of Law.
