On Tuesday 2nd November, Dr Fergus Ryan of Maynooth University's Department of Law appeared on TG4's flagship political programme 7Lá. Speaking to TG4's Shane Ó Curraighíne, Fergus discussed surrogacy law in Ireland and the gaps in the proposed General Scheme of Assisted Human Reproduction Bill 2017. Fergus pointed out the lack of legislation specifically addressing surrogacy in Ireland and the challenges this poses for intending parents, surrogate mothers, and children. He noted, in particular, the need to regulate international surrogacy arrangements, to make pre-birth parental orders available and to address retrospective surrogacy arrangements.
