Geography in Action

Friday, February 3, 2017 - 06:30

An Taoiseach Enda Kenny, T.D. today (Thursday 2 February 2017) visited Maynooth University to launch the process to formulate a new spatial planning framework.

Members of the Department, past and present, are heavily involved in this work. Professor Jim Walsh, who has been central to the shaping of spatial and regional policy in Ireland over many decades is advisor to the current venture, as is Dr Chris van Egeraat and Dr David Meredith, at Teagasc, a Geography Department alumni.

The crucial evidence base underpinning the strategy is developed by Prof. Edgar Morgenroth at the ESRI, another alumni of the Department, and Justin Gleeson and Professor Rob Kitchin at AIRO, our associated research institute at Maynooth University.
