Research Interests

The Barrett research groups primary interest is in metal based anti - cancer therapeutics and metal based complexes which display anti - microbial activities. Our research falls under the large umbrella of Bio-Inorganic Chemistry and  is at the interface of Chemistry & Biology.

We are specifically interested in metal based complexes as targeted anti - cancer and anti - microbial therapeutics.

In particular:

1)  Self-immolative Pt(IV) complexes as potential chemotherapy drugs.

2) Targeted Cu(II) small molecule drugs which interact with DNA & RNA.

3) Targeted Cu(II) complexes with anti microbial and anti- cancer properties .

4) Pt(II) anti - cancer complexes which are activated in the cell via bioorthogonal pathways.

5) Lipophillic Pt(IV) complexes with potential anti - microbial properties.
