Alumnus Martin Lenihan, World Bank, Washington, D.C returned to speak at our recent Development Workshop

Maynooth University alumnus Martin Lenihan, now a Senior Social Development Specialist with the World Bank in Washington, D.C., returned to Maynooth to provide the keynote lecture in the workshop “Implementing Development: National and International Perspectives”, hosted by the Postgraduate Programme in Anthropology & Development.

Dr. Lenihan, who obtained his PhD in Rural Sociology from Penn State University, spoke on the topic of social sustainability in World Bank-financed operations.

He was joined by Elżbieta Drążkiewicz, a Marie Curie Intra-European Fellow at Maynooth University, who is currently working with Patty Gray of the Anthropology Department. Dr. Drążkiewicz, who obtained her PhD in Social Anthropology from the University of Cambridge, spoke about her past experience consulting with the Department of Development Cooperation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Poland. The workshop benefited students studying for the MA and PG Certificate in Anthropology & Development.
