Student received Dr H H Stewart Literary Scholarship in Chinese at the NUI Awards Ceremony 2018
Bernice Basnayake from Chinese Studies received the Dr H H Stewart Literary Scholarship in Chinese at the annual NUI Awards ceremony which took place on 13 November the Mansion House, Dublin.

Book Launch Chinese Studies 3rd October 2018
On 3rd October 2018 a book launch was held in Maynooth University to launch Dr Zhouxiang Lu's new publications; Politics and Identity in Chinese Martial Arts & Olympics in Conflict: From the Games of the New Emerging Forces to the Rio Olympics both recently published by Routledge. Professor Arnd Witte spoke at the launch and an enjoyable evening was had by friends and colleagues.

Guest Lecturer Professor Peter Herrmann visits Chinese Studies
We were delighted to welcome Professor Peter Herrmann to Chinese Studies in early May. He has been teaching at several Third Level Institutions across the EU; currently correspondent to the Max Planck Institute for Social Law and Social Policy [previously Foreign and International Social Law] Munich, Germany.

The 2018 “Chinese Bridge” Chinese Proficiency Competition
The 2018 “Chinese Bridge” Chinese Proficiency Competition for Irish College Students was held in the Gresham Hotel, Dublin on 7 April 2018. 4 students from Maynooth University and their Chinese language teachers took part in the event. Niclas Stenberg and Seik Yan Choong from Maynooth University won The Best Teamwork award.

New Book Published by Faculty
The volume is co-edited by Dr. Zhouxiang Lu, Lecturer in the Department of Chinese Studies and Prof. Fan Hong, Professor in Asian Studies at Bangor University. Contributors include Dr Yinya Liu, also of the Maynooth University Department of Chinese Studies, alongside scholars based in the Australia, Brazil, China, Germany, UK and Singapore.
