Assess for Success presented at QQI Conference

Thursday, February 2, 2023 - 14:30

Maynooth University’s Centre for Teaching and Learning (CTL) shared findings from its ‘Assess for Success’ project, including links to its Assessment and Feedback Hub, through a poster and a lightning talk at the QQI conference on assessment, ‘Let’s Talk About Assessment 2023: Rethinking Assessment in Higher Education’ which took place in the Dublin on Monday 29th January.

In their contribution, CTL’s Lisa O’Regan and Alison Farrell remarked on the rationale for the project which linked a focus on assessment and feedback with student success.

Drawing on the work of Brown and Sambell, with whom the CTL colleagues collaborated on the project, they referred in their poster and talk to what we know from practice wisdom and the literature in this space: ‘Assessment is an integral part of student learning and can impact significantly on students’ satisfaction, engagement and ultimate achievement .... Good assessment can enhance the student learning experience and potential outcomes’ (Brown and Sambell, 2022, p. 1). In turn they noted how the Assessment and Feedback hub could be used by staff to inform and enhance practice, to prompt conversations with colleagues and students, and to guide policy development.

CTL will continue to develop the hub including through adding an academic integrity topic in the coming weeks.

CTL urge colleagues to engage with the resources gathered in the hub and would be grateful to receive feedback to Dr Alison Farrell
