Maynooth University's Social Justice Week 2021: Thinking about Teaching: Reflecting on Education and Social Justice
On Monday, March 8th (1pm to 2.30pm), students and staff of the Think About Teaching Foundation Certificate are opening their (virtual!) classroom doors to the university community for Social Justice Week. The session will offer you the chance to share your perspectives on education and social justice issues, and learn from our students and the work that we do! Turn to Teaching staff member Dr Seán Henry has chapter published in 'Irish and British Reflections on Catholic Education' (Ed. Seán Whittle)
Dr. Seán Henry, who teaches on the Think About Teaching Foundation Cert, contributed a chapter to the recently published collection Irish and British Reflections on Catholic Education (Ed. Sean Whittle). His chapter was entitled 'The Queerness of Education: Rethinking Catholic Schooling Beyond Identity.' In it, Seán argued for a re-imagining of Catholic schooling resistant to homophobia and transphobia by turning to the idea of education as a queer political praxis.

29 Students Graduate from the Think About Teaching Programme
The Conferring Ceremony for the Think About Teaching Class of 2020 took place on-line on Friday, November 27th. A record number of students (29) graduated from the programme, which is now into its third year. While circumstances did not allow us to celebrate in person; family, friends, staff and supporters joined on-line to share in the tremendous achievements of the students. An-bhródúil asaibh go léir. Guím gach rath oraibh don todhchaí!

Turn to Teaching: Funded for Another Three Years!
We are delighted to tell you that we received confirmation from the Higher Education Authority and the Department of Education and Skills that the Turn to Teaching project has been funded for another three years. Turn to Teaching is a central element of Strand 1 of the Programme for Access to Higher Education (PATH), which supports access to initial teacher education by National Access Plan target groups.

Think About Teaching will be taking part in the Maynooth University Virtual Open Day on this Saturday the 25th of April from 10.30am until 3.00pm. Dr Gareth Burns, Director of Think About Teaching, will be available on-line to answer any questions you might have about the Think About Teaching Foundation Course for Initial Teacher Education. Attendees can also access our virtual presentation about Think About Teaching on the day. We would love you to join us and you can do so by registering in advance at www.mu.ie/opendays. You will then receive a link to the Virtual Open Day by email, which will go live on Saturday.

Think About Teaching Graduation
First Think About Teaching Class Graduates: Friday, November 22nd, 2019 was a significant date as it marked the Graduation Ceremony for the first Think About Teaching class, here at Maynooth University. Think About Teaching is a one year Foundation Couse for Initial Teacher Education (FCITE), which prepares students from under-represented groups for entry to teaching degrees in Maynooth University. The programme is funded by the HEA and Maynooth University, and is a colloborative initiative that is supported by the Department of Adult and Community Education, Froebel Department of Primary and Early Childhood Education, MU Department of Education and Maynooth Access Programme.
