MA Anthropology and Development Workshop

'What migration processes reveal about global restructurings'

What do the movements of Central Americans into Mexico and the US, of Turkish migrants into Germany, of the Chinese in France or of Peruvians in Italy tell us about the emerging nodes and modes of capitalist dominance? What can we learn about systemic change from the forms of labour and the practices of place-making and social reproduction undertaken by migrants in these new locations? Tracing landscapes of dispossession and histories of migration, the participants in this symposium will take ethnography beyond the everyday to illuminate contemporary capitalist restructurings.
