Biography

Tá mé ag obair mar Theagascóir Sinsearach le Gaeilge in Ollscoil Mhá Nuad ó 2011. Bím ag obair le Roinn na Nua-Ghaeilge agus le Lárionad na Gaeilge: Taighde, Teagasc agus Tástáil, ag múineadh Gaeilge do mhic léinn na bunchéime, ag obair mar scrúdaitheoir do Theastas Eorpach na Gaeilge (TEG) agus mar mheasúnóir don Dioplóma i Múineadh na Gaeilge do Dhaoine Fásta. Roimhe sin, chaith mé trí bliana mar Léachtóir agus Scoláire ar Cuairt in Ionad an Léinn Éireannaigh in Ollscoil San Tomás, Houston, Texas. Tá roinnt cáilíochtaí bainte amach agam sa Ghaeilge agus sa teangeolaíocht: B.A. sa Ghaeilge agus sa cheol (Ollscoil Mhá Nuad, 2005); M.A. sa Ghaeilge (Ollscoil na Banríona, Béal Feirste, 2007); M.Phil. sa Teangeolaíocht Fheidhmeach (Coláiste na Tríonóide, 2013); Dioplóma i Múineadh na Gaeilge (Ollscoil Mhá Nuad, 2014) agus an Séala Creidiúnaithe d’Aistritheoirí (Foras na Gaeilge, 2016).   Tá taighde dochtúireachta sa teangeolaíocht idir lámha agam faoi láthair i gColáiste na Tríonóide, le maoiniú ón gComhairle um Oideachas Gaelscolaíochta agus Gaeltachta (COGG). Is é aidhm an taighde seo corpas foghlaimeora a thógáil agus a anótáil, bunaithe ar scrúduithe scríofa agus labhartha TEG, le hanailís a dhéanamh ar fhorbairt an chumais ghramadaí sa Ghaeilge ó leibhéal B1-C1 den Fhráma Tagartha Comónta Eorpach (FTCE). Tá tionscadal eile taighde ar bun agam le scrúduithe Gaeilge na hOllscoile a ailíniú leis an FTCE. Tá baint agam, freisin, le tionscadal de chuid Ionad Nuatheangacha na hEorpa (ECML) in Graz, maidir leis an dearbhú cáilíochta in úsáid an FTCE.

I have been working as a Senior Irish Language Tutor in Maynooth University since 2011.  I work with both the Department of Modern Irish and the Centre for Irish Language Research, Teaching and Testing, teaching Irish at undergraduate level, working as an examiner for Teastas Eorpach na Gaeilge (TEG) and as an assessor for the Diploma in Teaching Irish to Adults. Before that, I spent three years as a Visiting Scholar and Lecturer in the Center for Irish Studies, University of St Thomas, Houston, Texas.
I have a number of qualifications in Irish and linguistics: B.A. in Irish and music (Maynooth University, 2005); M.A. in Irish (Queen’s University, Belfast, 2007); M.Phil. in Applied Linguistics (Trinity College Dublin, 2013); Diploma in Teaching Irish to Adults (Maynooth University, 2014) and the Seal of Accreditation for Translators (Foras na Gaeilge, 2016). I am currently working on doctoral research in linguistics in Trinity College Dublin, funded by An Chomhairle um Oideachas Gaelscolaíochta agus Gaeltachta (COGG). The aim of the project is to build a grammatically-annotated corpus of written and spoken TEG exams, in order to analyse the development of grammatical competence in Irish from B1-C1 levels of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). I am working on another research project to investigate the alignment of undergraduate Irish exams with the CEFR and I am also involved in a project at the European Centre for Modern Languages (ECML) in Graz, focused on quality assurance in the use of the CEFR.
