    Fulbright Student Awards

    Fulbright Student Awards: For up to one academic year for postgraduate study or research in the United States in any discipline, including the arts. Grants are a maximum of $20,000. Applicants may stay to complete their academic programme if it is longer than one year.

    Fulbright Staff and Alumni will give Webinars covering the following areas:
    An overview of Fulbright Irish scholarships on offer for 2023-2024, information on grants and resources available to candidates, advice on how to prepare for the application period 
    and time for Q&A.

    NUI Travelling Scholarship

    NUI Awards and Scholarships

    Each Travelling Studentship is valued at €64,000 each, i.e. €16,000 per annum, for up to 4 years.
     
    Travelling Studentships in the Humanities & Social Sciences (incl. Business & Law)                         
    Travelling Studentships in the Sciences (including Engineering & Architecture)           
    Travelling Studentship in Mathematics (to be awarded in honour of the second Chancellor of NUI, Éamon De Valera and in recognition of the centenary of the 1916 Rising)           

    Please note:
    - NUI graduates in receipt of other funding are not precluded from applying for a travelling studentship
    - NUI graduates registered in NUI institutions may apply for a travelling studentship but must show they intend to undertake ‘substantial’ research overseas.

    Universities Ireland

    North/South Postgraduate Scholarships - ​Universities Ireland is offering four scholarships, each of worth €15,000, to students who meet the scheme's eligibility criteria and have been accepted to undertake a recognised Master’s Degree or are entering the first year of a PhD programme at a university in the island of Ireland that is not in the same jurisdiction as the university where they have previously studied. The aim of this scheme is to encourage outstanding students from the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland to cross the border to undertake postgraduate study and experience life in the other Irish jurisdiction. Strict eligibility rules apply. 

    PhD History Bursary - Universities Ireland is offering four bursaries to students commencing post-graduate study on a topic relating to the 1912-1923 period in Ireland, the decade of the First World War and the division of the island into the states of Ireland (Irish Free State) and Northern Ireland. Applications are particularly welcome this year from students undertaking work on the impact of events in 1916 on this island.

    Wellcome Trust & National Institutes of Health PhD Studentships

    Wellcome Trust & National Institutes of Health PhD Studentships - the studentships provide opportunities for the most promising postgraduate students to undertake four years of international, collaborative PhD training split between a UK or Republic of Ireland academic institution and the intramural campus of the National Institutes of Health at Bethesda in Maryland, USA. This scheme is a partnership between the Trust and the US National Institutes of Health (NIH). It promotes the training of exceptional students in international collaborative biomedical research, at some of the best laboratories in academic institutions in the USA, the UK and the Republic of Ireland.

    Expressions of interest should include:
    A brief CV with details of the undergraduate degree held or being undertaken and results achieved/expected (applicants should have a minimum of an excellent upper-second-class honours degree in a relevant subject); two pages maximum.
    A summary of the proposed research, to include information about motivation for choosing the subject and institution; two pages maximum.
    A letter of support from the current OR proposed academic sponsor, addressing the candidate’s potential and appropriateness of the course.

    ResearchProfessional.com - Maynooth University subscribes to this online research funding opportunities database service which also includes information about various funding opportunities for postgraduates.  Award types include scholarships of various duration, funding for trips, library visits, labs visits etc. You can register for your own username and password and, by doing this, you can set up email alerts and tailor the service to meet your needs.  If you access the database on campus, you can use it without signing in (under the "Campus Access" option).
