Recent decades have seen tremendous advances in our understanding of the role of topology and quantum entanglement in quantum many-body systems. One particularly striking example is in the area of fractionalized phases of matter, which host emergent quasiparticles with many weird and wonderful properties completely distinct from their microscopic constituents. I will provide a very broad introduction to my research in this area and give some examples of strongly correlated systems with very unconventional low-temperature physics
