Staff Development Room, John Hume Building

The Maynooth University Centre for Public Education and Pedagogy, in association with the Studies of Conflict and the Political in Education Research Network (SCAPE), is delighted to announce a seminar entitled “The Politics of Instrumentalism.”

Dissenting from the dominant chorus that endorses the “purpose” of education, the presenters examine the politics of instrumentalism at play in determining educational practices and interrogate the unquestioned status of instrumentalism in education policy, practice and theory. Presenters: Professor Gert Biesta (Brunel University UK), Professor Claudia Ruitenberg (University of British Columbia), Professor Maria Mendel (University of Gdansk), Professor Thomazs Skudlarek (University of Gdansk), Professor Carl Anders Säfström (Maynooth University), Professor Sharon Todd (Maynooth University), Dr Tony Carusi (Massey University). The seminar will be held in the Staff Development Seminar Room, John Hume Building and all are welcome.
