Four-year PhD position in International Social Entrepreneurship and Runaway Global Warming starting in September 2025

Wednesday, May 22, 2024 - 09:30

As part of the IRC Enterprise Partnership Scheme, the senior managers of a large international Irish Charity are evaluating the possibility to co-sponsor a four-year PhD position at Maynooth University with the Government of Ireland. The candidate will be working in close collaboration with the Charity’s Marketing & Fundraising and Strategy & Global Partnerships departments to gather and analyse data on:

  • The effects of runaway global warming on Irish citizens’ donation patterns and sensibility to catastrophes in the Global South.
  • The Charity employees’ sensemaking of runaway global warming and the Charity’s strategic mission drift back from a ‘social enterprise’ to a more traditional ‘humanitarian support’ model.
  • The design and implementation of global communication and coordination systems (COP, news outlets, etc.) to raise public awareness and sensibility to catastrophic weather events.

The ideal candidate will have a strong multi-method background and familiarity with both qualitative and quantitative methodologies. The position will start in September 2025, however, final applications are due to the Irish Research Council in November 2024. Interested candidates should contact Dr Luca Castellanza (luca.castellanza@mu.ie) with a Curriculum Vitae, draft four-page proposal, academic transcripts, and short motivation letter or expression of interest as soon as possible, but no later than Friday, September 20th 2024.
