Food sovereignty is about movements of citizens striving for democratic control of our food system. It is grounded in a belief in creating a new food system in which production and distribution protects the environment and the rights of all people to access resources such as land, seeds, and knowledge. Food Sovereignty requires transforming the current agricultural structure in Ireland and beyond.
On April 9th 2019, Maynooth University staff in the Department of Geography, the Department of Sociology, the Department of Adult & Community Education, and the Department of International Development are delighted to host a unique day of participatory activities with excellent speakers and numerous opportunities for debate and discussion about changing food systems. Please come along and take part. Details of the day's structure are provided below:
10am to 1pm: Workshop I
“Collective sustainability through community gardens and farms.”

2.30 to 4.30pm: Workshop II
“Building and sustaining community land trusts and community supported farms: The Kulturland experience” With critical insights from Thomas Rippel, Project Manager, Kulturland, Germany.

5pm: Public Lecture
“Our food system: climate change and the need for transformation.”
