Dr Brian Flanagan recently contributed a long read to RTÉ Brainstorm on the issue of Brexit and British Sovereignty.  Dr Flanagan argues that, to understand what Brexit might mean for British self-mastery, we must distinguish three ideas to which Brexiteers appeal: democracy, local policy-making and playing fair. On investigation, none of these ideas implies that Britain’s sovereignty rests on implementing the 2016 referendum. Even now, averting Brexit would leave British sovereignty intact.

Dr Brian Flanagan, is a lecturer at the Department of Law, and teaches jurisprudence on our undergraduate programmes.
