The Department of English is delighted to announce the appointment of two new members of staff.

Dr Rita Sakr is joining our lecturing team from January 2018 as Lecturer in Postcolonial and Global Literatures. Dr Sakr comes to us from Goldsmiths, University of London having previously lectured at UCD and had postdoctoral positions at the University of Kent and the Orient Institut Beirut of the Max Weber Foundation.

Dr Sakr is the author of two monographs: Monumental Space in the Post-Imperial Novel (Continuum/Bloomsbury) and ‘Anticipating’ the 2011 Arab Uprisings: Revolutionary Literartures and Political Geographies (Palgrave). Dr Sakr brings immense expertise in the areas of migration, postcolonialism, Middle Eastern writing and human rights. We look forward to the new experiences which Dr Sakr’s expertise will bring to our students and to the Department’s research culture.

Dr Ailbhe McDaid is taking up a post as Lecturer in English for a period of six months. Dr McDaid arrives having just completed a period as Postdoctoral Fellow at the Institute of Irish Studies, University of Liverpool. Dr McDaid is a graduate of the University of Otago.
