The Department of English at Maynooth provides students with an exciting and rewarding experience. Our internationally-recognised lecturers are dedicated to allowing students to achieve their full potential as readers, writers and critics.
Our BA programme (entered via the Bachelor of Arts degree – CAO code MH101) is specifically designed to guide students from second-level and access to become independent learners and thinkers by the end of their degree. Our degree programmes allow students to mix the study of English with other subjects, tailoring their learning to their own strengths. Undergraduates specializing in English have the opportunity of studying creative writing and of writing a final year project.
The Higher Diploma in English programme is designed for applicants who already hold a BA or comparable degree, and who wish to add English to their list of qualifications.
For postgraduate students, the Department’s new MA in English: Literatures of Engagement is a dynamic and cutting-edge MA, dedicated to exploring literature’s place in the world.
We welcome applications from prospective doctoral research students wishing to earn a PhD in English. We provide expertise in a wide range of research areas. The Department also has a strong record of hosting postdoctoral researchers.
