Thursday, April 7, 2016 - 11:00 to 12:30
Edgeworth Room, Rhetoric House, South Campus, Maynooth University

As part of the Economics and Finance seminar series at Maynooth University Professor Peter Dolton (University of Sussex) will present "Childhood Obesity, is Fast Food Proximity a Factor?"

It has often been suggested that the availability of fast food is a cause of increasing obesity prevalence. If true, this has serious public health policy implications. However, using data on opening of fast food outlets in the UK between 1968 - 1986 the authors find no support for a statistically significant relationship between the access to fast food and BMI.

Peter Dolton is a professor of Economics at the University of Sussex and his research focuses on issues in education, health and labour Economics.
