4th year design innovation students win coveted award

Two 4th year design innovation students have won a highly coveted Core77 design award

Two 4th year design innovation students from Maynooth University have won a highly coveted Core77 design award. Jonathan Doyle and Rebecca Mooney’s innovative redesign of a Guinness Keg impressed by “revolutionising a banal metal keg”  and in its place creating an  “Aesthetic, beautiful, handsome, agreeable tool” said an international  judging panel. The panel was led by  Lars Wallentin, who was formerly Chief Packaging Designer with Nestle and is presently author, global consultant and speaker on packaging design and communications. The jury believe the design could even be a winner in other categorises claiming “this is much more than packaging design, this is DESIGN- real pure design”
 
The core77 design awards recognise excellence in all areas of design enterprise, celebrating the richness of the design profession and its practitioners across 17 categories. It is an international competition, judged by “74 of the greatest design minds of our time” according to Metropolis. Competition is extremely competitive, with entries from the best international design studios, brands and schools in every category.
