Academic Integrity – Exploring Research and Practice

The concept of academic integrity is one that is at the very core of education, important to students, educators and university managers alike. Unfortunately, it’s also a concept that is most often discussed in relation to an absence of academic integrity, with much research considering concerns such as plagiarism, contract cheating and challenges posed by advances in technology.

This interactive session will consider recent research in the academic integrity field along with surrounding ideas for best practice. It will include considering why academic integrity is important and how to raise this issue with students to help them to see its importance, drawing also on some of the excellent work already taking place with the Maynooth Students' Union. Some of the threats to academic integrity will also be discussed, since it is also important for students and staff alike to understand the drivers behind academic misconduct and the opportunities available to minimise the risk of this. Plenty of time will be available for questions and discussion.
