Collingwood Cup holders Maynooth University where beaten for the second time in a week in extra time & penalties UCC staged a dramatic come back to knock out the holders as the Irish Universities Collingwood Cup reached the semi final stage at NUI Galway.
The Cork side were trailing 2-0 with 12 minutes remaining after Niall Lanigan and  Muhanned Bukhatwa had given Maynooth a comfortable lead.
But UCC did not give up and Cian Hill pulled a goal back on 78 minutes in a goalmouth scramble after Cathal Lordan had crashed a free kick off the Maynooth crossbar.
A smart Daniel Pender  finish from Conor Barry’s left wing cross pulled UCC  level with minutes remaining and after both sides were reduced to ten men the with goal scorers Lanigan and Hill both sent off the extra time failed to generate any futher  goals.
UCC emerged victories in the penalty shoot which finished 7-6 and reach the semi final  with Ian Mylod hitting the winner after goalkeeper Charlie Bornemann had saved three of Maynooth’s efforts
