Maynooth University hurlers win the Ryan Cup Championship

A five year wait came to an end for the Maynooth University hurlers when they retained the coveted Division 2 Ryan Cup Championship last Saturday. 

The Maynooth University hurlers won the Ryan Cup Championship in style, defeating Trinity College Dublin 0-18 to 0-8pts in the final on the Academy pitch in Queens University Belfast.

It was a tough road to victory but the Maynooth University hurlers were up for the challenge, defeating every team they faced along the way. St Pats Thurles, Queens University Belfast, UUJ and Trinity succumbed to the powerhouse that was the yellow and black of Maynooth University hurling team. During the Championship weekend there were star performances throughout the Maynooth team with the Player of the Match award presented to 1st Arts student Paul Winters, scoring 11 points in the final against Trinity. The Ryan Cup was presented to Maynooth University proud captain David Hennessy. 

The Maynooth University hurlers have a very strong management team leading the charge this year, with Offaly native Liam Hogan as team manager of both the Senior and fresher squads, working alongside Liam is the ever experienced Jim Kilty and David Kennedy. This victory was due to a phenomenal amount of work and commitment by both management and players alike.
