Prof Doherty has just published a new piece, ‘Employment Relations and the Law’, in The Routledge Companion to Employment Relations. Comprising five thematic sections, this new edited volume provides a critical, international, and interdisciplinary exploration of employment relations. It examines the major subjects and emerging areas within the field, including essays on institutional theory, voice, new actors, precarious work and employment.

Prof Doherty’s chapter looks at the manner in which legal regulation of the employment relationship in many jurisdictions has shifted over time to incorporate more ‘reflexive’ and ‘soft law’ mechanisms. It also charts the shift in focus from regulation of the collective employment relationship to a much greater emphasis on individual rights at work.

Prof Doherty is Head of Maynooth University Department of Law and lectures courses to all first year law students on Introduction to Law, as well as Employment Law to BCL/ LLB students.
