Department of Law Model Parliament 2015

Friday, February 20, 2015 - 00:00

Maynooth University Department of Law's Annual Model Parliament takes place on Monday, 23 February 2015.

On Monday 23 February 2015, school children from around Ireland will participate in the Maynooth University Law Department‘s Model Parliament competition. The topic up for debate this year is highly topical as the students will be considering whether the voting age should be reduced to 16.

The event simulates a sitting of the Dáil, at which students will play the roles of backbench TDs, an Taoiseach, and Leader of the Opposition. The event is designed to engage senior cycle students in the workings of parliament and assembly politics, and it has been a great success in previous years.

The Leas-Cheann Comhairle, Mr Michael Kitt, will chair the debate and Dr Adrian P Kavanagh will act as judge on the day.
