Speaker: Dr Robert Cuffe, Head of Statistics, BBC News

Title: "Numbers in the newsroom"

Abstract: After twenty minutes putting you in the shoes of a journalist
responding to a breaking story based on numbers, Robert will talk
about fitting numbers and uncertainty in news.

Bio: Robert is the head of statistics at BBC News where he helps journalists
tell stories better with numbers. Before that, he worked on trials
of drugs for HIV in the pharmaceutical industry as head of statistics
at ViiV Healthcare. He is a statistical ambassador for the UK’s
Royal Statistical Society and was chairman of the UK pharmaceutical
statisticians’ industry body PSI, where he worked with the Science
Media Centre to set up a statistical briefing service for the lay
science press.

He studied maths and psychology at Trinity College in Dublin and
obtained his PhD at Oxford while working as a statistician in the
stroke research unit.
