Chinese New Year Celebration Returns to Maynooth University
In a vibrant display of cultural unity and celebration, the Chinese Language Department at the School of Modern Languages, Literatures, and Cultures hosted a triumphant Chinese New Year celebration on February 21st. The event, held at Aula Maxima Hall on the south campus, marked a poignant return to festivities after pandemic-induced interruptions.
The occasion boasted a distinguished guest list, which included Professor Patrick McCole, the Vice-President International of Maynooth University, Professor Valerie Heffernan, Head of the Modern Language Department, and Ms. Helen Kirrane, representing the International Office. Joining them were over 100 esteemed faculty members and enthusiastic students.
Professor McCole set a warm tone for the event with his opening remarks, extending heartfelt New Year wishes in Chinese to all participants. The atmosphere was electric as teachers and students from the Chinese Language Department took to the stage, showcasing a diverse array of talents. From mesmerizing dance routines to melodious singing performances, students from all academic years dazzled the audience with their proficiency and enthusiasm.
The event was a resounding success, providing a platform for students to showcase their learning outcomes and reaffirming the university's commitment to inclusivity and cultural enrichment.
