New Research Centre for Public Education at Maynooth University reaffirms leadership role in Irish education studies
Maynooth University today reaffirms its position as the country’s foremost provider of education studies with the announcement of a new Research Centre for Public Education and Pedagogy and the first BSc in Mathematics and Computer Science for future teachers.

Special Issue of the Journal of Irish Educational Studies, June 2018. Engaging in Educational Narrative Inquiry: Making Visible Alternative Knowledge
This Special Issue on Narrative Inquiry has its origins in a series of conferences convened by Dr Grace O’ Grady, Maynooth University, Dr Jacqueline O’ Toole, Institute of Technology, Sligo and Dr Anne Byrne, National University of Ireland, Galway. All three had been engaged with narrative ideas in their respective research but recognised that a wider forum was needed to discuss, debate and disseminate narrative studies in a broader context. Included in this Special Issue are internationally renowned scholars, Professors Maria Tamboukou and D. Jean Clandinin, both of whom delivered keynote addresses at the conferences.

Professor John Coolahan RIP
It was with deep sorrow that we learned of the passing of our colleague and friend, Professor Emeritus John Coolahan, on Sunday (3rd June, 2018). John was Professor and Head of this department for 17 years and during this time he profoundly influenced his colleagues and students. Former students will remember his passion for the History and Structure of Irish Education and all will remember his support, encouragement, collegiality and leadership.
