Kyla Adanza

Spent 4 years in Maynooth University doing the Computer Science and Software Engineering course. During my time there I was involved in the following:
- Volunteered as a coderdojo demonstrator
- Did SPUR program and studied under Joe Timoney and Hao Wu
- Was a member of games society
The experience that shaped my career was definitely the internship I did in 3rd year as part of my course. I did my internship in AWS which led me to a graduate position leading me to where i am now which is working as a software developer in AWS.
Take part in as much volunteering programs/ projects your course and lecturers has to offer. Then add these programs and projects to your CV, this will look very appealing for when you apply for internships and jobs.
Im a software development engineer in AWS, I've been working here for 5 years now. I work in the incident tooling and managent org that deals with any alarms or issues relating to AWS.
I find the constant learning interesting and challenging at the same time. You're never bored since you're always learning something new when it comes to working on a new project or debugging a problem or helping someone with their problem.
Do an internship, whether it compulsory for your course or not. I've learnt so much during my internship and it led me to where I am now. Even if your internship doesn't offer a graduate position, at least you can still add it to your cv and you've gained insight and experience as to what it like working in the corporate world.
I was very lucky to have the internship as compulsory in my course and since it was, the carreer centre guided us as to how to apply to internships as well as gave us a lot of help.
