We are excited to have you join the Maynooth community and we look forward to welcoming you to campus as you begin your Maynooth journey.
There is a lot to learn and much to be discovered on your Maynooth journey and we hope that orientation and other supports will be a good starting place for that endeavour. Please note that Orientation takes place during the week of 21 September (mainly virtual activities), and classes begin on 28 September. We advise you to arrive in Ireland with enough time to allow you to complete the 14-day period of restricted movement before classes begin.
Welcome Week (21st-25th September) is an opportunity for all new students starting in Maynooth University to: • Familiarise themselves with the University and its various departments;
• Meet new friends;
• Meet your lecturers;
• Explore various subject and programme options (where relevant);
• Learn about the various support services available to you.
The Welcome Week will consist of a mix of online narrated presentations and live sessions hosted by Maynooth University staff. The International Office will host virtual office hours throughout the week and be available to you to answer questions and guide you as you settle in. Schedules to follow soon.
The main MU orientation webpage, My Maynooth may be useful for further information, but please note that the information is designed for domestic first year students predominantly.
This year the majority of orientation events and sessions will be delivered remotely.

The International Office highly reccommends that you attend all of the below live sessions unless a session is specified for a particular cohort of students.

Join any day (Monday to Friday) at any point during 12-1pm to chat with an International Office staff member who will be there hoping you join them! Ask a question and receive an immediate response or just let us know you have arrived safely - log in and say hello!
The International Office will be running a number of regular virtual office hour sessions over a 3 week period beginning week commencing September 14th until week commencing September 28th. Some of the sessions will be themed while most of them will be general sessions aimed at helping answer any questions or queries you may have. Full schedule below with login details for each:
As we live through a pandemic it means there will be measures to be followed when on campus. In this session, your SU President Kelly will run through some of the measures that are in place, give an insight into college life and share information about the supports available to you here in Maynooth.

Maynooth University is well known for its high rate of commuting students. Join Bukky and Julian, who themselves commuted to Maynooth for 4 years, as they provide tips and guidance for new students who will be commuting to University. From the simple things like where do each of the bus services arrive to and depart from through to where to go to get a Leap Card.

Whether you are a new or returning student, these sessions offer you a chance to meet your elected officer team and get your questions answered! Kelly, Julian, Ciarán, Bukky and others will be passing on the latest news and trying their best to answer any questions that pop up in the live feed. We will also host unscheduled session on our Insta account as hot topics arise- so keep an eye out!

This special session is hosted by Eoin McGee from RTÉ's 'How to be Good with Money' and 'This Crowded House'. Money and budgeting can be difficult for students and Eoin has several practical tips for how you can make your money go further. This session is brought to you by Life Credit Union, who offer a range of service catering specifically for students.
MY FIRST YEAR
Tuesday 22nd September, 6pm - 7pm
Starting college can be a daunting experience, full of new challenges. It can also be exciting and fun! Join our elected officers as they share with you their experience of their first year here in Maynooth and how it set them on the path they are on now. They have ‘been there and done that’ so can answer almost any question you might have!
Wednesday 23rd September, 6pm - 7pm
Starting college can be an overwhelming experience at times. You will be very busy and there will be a lot of information to take in. It’s important that you look after yourself, in this session Ciarán will share some advice with you and outline the wellbeing supports that are available. He will also be joined by Beth, the Maynooth University representative for the Niteline Student Listening service.
FIND YOUR PEOPLE
Thursday 24th September, 6pm - 7pm
Join Bukky as she shares her experience of the social side of college life. She will give you hints and tips on how to meet new people and get involved in activities outside the classroom. You will also be introduced to some of the online activities that MSU will be running to help you get to know your fellow Maynoothians.
GETTING INVOLVED WITH MSU

There are lots of opportunities to get involved here in MSU. Our aim is to provide you with a range of activities that enrich your college experience and allow you to have some fun and meet new people. In this session, our officers will outline some of the opportunities available including Student Ambassadors, Student Engagement Ambassadors.
REMOTE LEARNING & DESTRESSING
Wednesday 30th September, 6pm - 7pm
Join Julian as he shares his experience of studying here in Maynooth. Learn about what you can expect from lectures, tutorials, and laboratory sessions. Julian will also explore what remote learning will look like and what it means for your college experience.
Thursday 01st October, 6pm - 7pm
Every year MSU advocates on important issues that affect the student body. We know what it takes to raise awareness of an issue and make those with the power to enact change to pay attention! In this session, Kelly and Bukky will empower you with the knowledge of what your rights are as a student, and what you can do about it if those rights are impacted.
The University will be delivering a whole host of remote presentations and seminars through a blended mix of pre-recorded and live online sessions.
In addition to all of the important information and guidance that will be provided through the central My Maynooth Orientation Programme the International Office will also be delivering a number of bespoke information sessions unique to international students.
