Prof Fiona Lyddy
Biography
I hold qualifications in psychology from University College Cork (BA, PhD) and in law from the Honorable Society of King’s Inns (Degree of Barrister at Law, Dip. Media Law). I am a Professor in the Department of Psychology at Maynooth University and an Adjunct Professor in the School of Applied Psychology at University College Cork. I have served as Head of the Department of Psychology (2008-13) and as Dean of Faculty and Vice President for Science and Engineering (2013-2019). I have served on the Academic Council at Maynooth University since 2008. I was elected a Fellow of the Psychological Society of Ireland in 2008 and was founding chair of the Society's Division of Teachers and Researchers in Psychology.
My research is concerned with the psychology of language, in particular reading and writing, bilingual education and how language shapes misconceptions in educational contexts. I am also interested in understanding how technology is influencing language use, and cognition more generally, including issues related to cognitive privacy.
