    MU conference examines legacy of institutional abuse

    Hosted by Maynooth University Social Sciences Institute and the Irish Centre for the Histories of Labour and Class at University of Galway, the initiative brings together researchers, survivors, those directly affected, and policymakers who have addressed historical and contemporary institutional abuse or failings.

    Delia Ferri, Professor of Law at the School of Law and Criminology and co-Director of the ALL Institute, has been appointed to the Scientific Committee of the EU Fundamental Rights Agency (FRA).

    Speaking on her appointment, Professor Ferri said: “I am delighted and honoured to have the opportunity to contribute to the work of the FRA and the advancement of fundamental rights in the European Union”.

    Maynooth Geographers have been successfully accepted to present at Glastonbury Festival, the world’s largest greenfield music and performing arts festival with attendance of over 200,000 people.

    Professor Aisling McMahon invited to present research at ‘Public Health, Trade and the Role of Law’ Workshop at the University of Edinburgh

    Professor McMahon’s paper was entitled “Patents, TRIPS and the Private Governance of Public Health: A Perpetuating Institutionalised Marginalisation of Health?” which argued that there is a marginalisation of broader health needs within the current intellectual property system under TRIPS.

    The Final Conference for the Varieties of Industrial Relations in Aviation Lockdown (VIRAL) project will take place in Brussels, on June 8th 2023.

    Dr David Mangan and Prof Michael Doherty have conducted the research for the Irish study, and have jointly led a work package on the project.

    MU receives €5m under SFI Frontiers programme

    Maynooth University researchers are set to receive over €5 million in funding from Science Foundation Ireland (SFI) under the Frontiers for the Future Programme, to tackle a range of topics such as renewable energy, climate change, food security, astronomy, immunology and cognitive science.
