Dr Gerard McCarthy of Maynooth University’s climate research unit ICARUS and the Department of Geography has been appointed as co-chair of a new initiative which aims to deliver an updated climate assessment of the Atlantic Ocean’s circulation system.

Maynooth colleagues publish on prison leadership and restorative practices
In May 2025, Dr. Ian Marder (Associate Professor in Criminology), Triona Kenny (PhD Student in Criminology and Research Assistant in Restorative Practices) and Katharina Kurz (PhD Student in Anthropology and Education and Research Assistant in Restorative Practices) published a new research paper in the journal Contemporary Justice Review.

INPAL's First In-Person Gathering Hosted at Maynooth University
In June, Maynooth University’s School of Law and Criminology hosted the first in-person meeting of the Irish Network of Peer Assisted Learning (INPAL). After connecting virtually for some time, peer mentoring colleagues from across Ireland came together to exchange ideas, share challenges, and highlight best practices.
