Maynooth Music alumna Frances Marshall, now an acclaimed arts photographer based in London, has been selected by the British Journal of Photography as a Winner of the Portrait of Britain 2023 for her portrait of Fr. Jarel Robinson Brown. Portrait of Britain presents images that define contemporary life in Britain, providing a snapshot of a frenzied year through 99 compelling portraits. Designed to illustrate the diversity of life in modern Britain, the award invites readers to reflect on the multiplicity of voices and stories across the UK.

Introducing her subject, Frances writes "I met Jarel, an Anglo Catholic priest, when I was looking for leaders of religious organisations who were openly queer, so that I could spotlight safe spaces for people of faith who were discovering their queerness."
