The Alevis today: thoughts on 25 years fieldwork amongst a heterodox Islamic Community
Monday 9 March, 5.00pm in the Anthropology Seminar Room
Reception afterwards
This talk examines the Alevis in Turkey from the ethnographic point of view, and simultaneously attempts to consider the dilemmas which arise when one attempts long-term fieldwork in a rapidly changing, increasingly trans-national milieu. These dilemmas are not new, but they influence almost every aspect of the way our research is devised, pursued and disseminated.
