Proinnsias Breathnach’s 50 Years in the Field (and in Maynooth University’s Department of Geography)
On September 30, Proinnsias Breathnach will complete 50 years as a member of the Maynooth Department of Geography, having taken up the position of Junior Lecturer on 1st October, 1972. He remains with the department in an Emeritus capacity.
We are marking Proinnsias’s half century with a reception in the Rocque Laboratory, on the Ground Floor of Rhetoric House, commencing at 3 pm on Friday September 30.
Proinnsias will deliver an illustrated talk on the theme “Fifty years in the field” which will reflect, in a whimsical way, on his experiences of field trips during his time at Maynooth. Proinnsias reckons he has led at least fifty fieldtrips since he started in Maynooth, so he has plenty of material to draw upon!
Following his talk, Proinnsias proposes to lead a further field trip exploring the delights of The Roost hostelry in Maynooth Main Street.
We would be delighted if you would join us on the 30th to celebrate this geographically historic event. To help us plan for catering, please let us know on firstname.lastname@example.org if you will be able to join us.
