Computational thinking tasks in Irish for Seachtain na Gaeilge / Tascanna Smaointeoireachta Ríomhaireachtúla do Sheachtain na Gaeilge

Wednesday, March 3, 2021 - 15:30

The PACT team at Maynooth University Department of Computer Science develops computational thinking teaching resources for primary and secondary schools in Ireland. For Seachtain na Gaeilge, we have made a set of our classroom resources available in Irish. They can be downloaded from https://pact.cs.nuim.ie/resources

Computational thinking (CT) is a set of problem-solving skills that computer scientists use during their daily work. These skills intersect with all STEM subjects because computational solutions have proven to be useful across many scientific fields. Our “unplugged” teaching materials are adapted from our involvement with the International Bebras CT Challenge, through the Irish Computer Society’s/ICS’s National Bebras Challenge. These CT tasks promote logical thinking, problem-solving skills, and reading/comprehension. Our experience is that pupils of all ages enthusiastically embrace this form of problem solving.

Our computational thinking workshops and materials are free of charge and teachers do not need any prior knowledge of computer science to attend our teacher CPD workshops. We are funded by Science Foundation Ireland and Maynooth University. Irish translations are funded by Aistriúchán Gaeilge arna mhaoiniú ag COGG.
