The ALL Institute is pleased to congratulate two of our own, Prof. Mac MacLachlan, ALL Co-Director, and Dr. Emma Smith, Postdoctoral Researcher, who were honoured last week with awards from the Rehabilitation Engineering and Assistive Technology Society of North America (RESNA) for their work in the field of assistive technology.
Prof. Mac MacLachlan received the Honorary Fellow award. RESNA Honorary Fellow Awards recognize non-members who have promoted issues and demonstrated leadership highly relevant to the field of assistive technology and rehabilitation engineering, and who have encouraged the independence of individuals with disabilities. The award was given to recognize his contributions to advancing the field of assistive technology at the global level, including his work to promote equity for persons with disabilities and other vulnerable groups in policy development and implementation.
Dr. Emma Smith received the Distinguished Service award, which recognizes members for their sustained contributions and service to RESNA and to the field of assistive technology and rehabilitation engineering. Dr. Smith was recognized for her her contributions to the RESNA Professional Standards Board, Special Interest Groups, Board of Directors, Student Design Competition, Annual Conference, and as the incoming Editor-in-Chief of the Assistive Technology Journal.

Maynooth University STEM Passport for Inclusion included as one of the Recommendations for National Implementation by the Gender Balance in STEM Education
The STEM Passport for Inclusion project, led by Dr Katriona O’Sullivan, Assisting Living and Learning (ALL) Institute and Dept of Psychology lecturer, has been included in the Minister for Education Norma Foley, Recommendations for National Implementation by the Gender Balance in STEM Education , published today, International Women’s Day 2022.

Co-Director of ALL Institute Prof Deirdre Desmond working on the DEPTH Study that has Identified Key Guiding Principles for the Role of Technology in Promoting Inclusive Higher Education
Prof. Pamela Gallagher (School of Psychology, DCU); Postdoctoral Researcher Dr Klavdija Zorec (School of Psychology, DCU); Trevor Boland (AHEAD); Prof. Deirdre Desmond (Department of Psychology & ALL Institute, Maynooth University); and Anne O’Connor (Disability and Learning Support Service, DCU), are working on The DEPTH Study: Designing for Enhanced Participation through Technology in Higher Education. This project funded by the Irish Research Council, explores the experiences of college students with disabilities and the role of technology in promoting inclusive higher education in Ireland.
