Anna Murray

A musician, composer and writer based in Dublin, Anna Murray obtained her Bachelor of Music degree from Maynooth University in 2009, specialising in composition for mixed media. In 2011 she completed an MPhil degree in Music and Media Technologies at Trinity College Dublin, where her final project was a composition exploring the connections between text and music. Her composition work focusses on works for small ensembles, with an interest in texture that comes from her experience with electroacoustic music, and an intense rhythmic drive. As well as electronics, Anna's work often combines music with visuals, creating works in which both audio and video are linked at a very deep level, often arising from the same processes.

As a pianist and composer, Anna has studied with such names as Leonora Carney, Adrian Vernon Fish, Donnacha Dennehy, Linda Buckley, and Gordon Delap, Lecturer in Music at Maynooth University. Significant performances of her works include Piano Tremors by Crash Ensemble at Free State VI, from City by the SoundSet Low Trio, Polaris by the jazz fusion group Rhombus, and a number of performances resulting from collaborations with Irish guitarist Philip Lawson. She has also had works performed by members of the Dublin String Quartet, Georgia Cusack and John O'Shea. Anna is an active member of and press officer for the Irish Composers' Collective.

Anna is also an active journalist in the area of music and the arts in Ireland, with regular contributions to publications such as The Journal of Music, and a bi-monthly column on contemporary/classical music in Ireland called “The Score” on State.ie. 

Anna plays synth, piano and bass with Dublin band The Manhattan Syndrome.
