We were delighted to formally launch the new EU Erasmus + project – ‘SEED: Capacity Building in Higher Education for Sustainable Community-based Enterprise Development’ in Maynooth University on 30th April.

The event was opened by the Project Coordinator, Bernie Grummell giving an overview of the project, followed by Professor Emerita and Chair of Adult Education at Maynooth University, Anne Ryan exploring the significance of transformative community approaches to climate change and food insecurity, and the origins of SEED in the Transformative  Engagement Network (TEN)’s innovative and award-winning international Masters programme in universities in Ireland, Malawi and Zambia.

Prof Leo Casey, former Director of the Centre for Education and Lifelong Learning at National College of Ireland spoke about his experiences of collaborative international partnerships on the Professional Identity for Khmer Teachers (PIKT) project in Cambodia, funded by the Irish Research Council’s  COALESCE programme and the importance of communicative action for transformative learning and impactful change.

Funded by the European Union under the Erasmus+ Programme, the SEED project aims to promote sustainable local development by strengthening higher education institutions, developing microcredential training, and fostering cooperation with community actors and policymakers, with partners from Belgium, Ireland, Italy, Malawi, and Zambia.
