Catholic Social Teaching in Comparative Perspective

How do religious bodies negotiate secular realities? This was the basic question addressed in a one-day Maynooth University conference (16 January, 2015) on “Catholic Social Teaching in Comparative Perspective” organised by Dr. Brian Conway, Department of Sociology. The conference aimed to bring disciplinary approaches (primarily from theology and sociology), historical and contemporary viewpoints, and theoretical and applied perspectives into dialogue. It included papers from Dr. Maciej Hulas (The John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin, Poland), Dr. Katie Dunne (St. Patrick’s College, Maynooth), Thomas Scally (St. Patrick’s College, Maynooth), Dr. Lorna Gold (Trócaire, Maynooth), and Dr. Tomasz Adamczyk, (The John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin, Poland).

The conference was organised as part of the Historical and Comparative Sociology Research Cluster. It was funded through the Faculty of Social Sciences small conference grant scheme.
