NUI Dr Mary L. Thornton Scholarship in Education 2021

Maynooth University student Tazila Ramputh has been awarded the NUI Dr Mary L. Thornton Scholarship in Education 2021. Tazila’s research for her Doctor of Education is titled “An Evaluation of the Influence of Accountability Regimes on the Curriculum Policy-Practice Nexus at Higher Education in Ireland”. The panel were especially impressed with “the ambition and academic rigour” of the research project. Tazila is supervised by Dr Majella Dempsey with Dr Bernie Grumell as a co-supervisor.
 
The NUI Dr Mary L. Thornton Scholarship in Education is awarded on the basis of a rigorous competition. The purpose of the Scholarship is to encourage postgraduate research in the field of Education in a constituent university, recognised college or a college linked with a constituent university of NUI. Through the Scholarship and Prize, NUI particularly encourages research related to Irish higher education. However, applications are accepted in relation to projects in any area of educational research. The value of the scholarship is €6000.
 
The Doctor of Education with Specialism is a four-year programme offered by the Department of Education in Maynooth University. It is designed for those who wish to undertake doctoral studies specifically related to their work in the field of education and offers specialist study in teacher education, educational leadership and curriculum studies.
