In academic year 2023-24, students from MU Chinese Studies joined China's Shanghai University for the year abroad programme. Here is some feedback and photos from our students:
'I could not be more satisfied with the choice I've made. As it is my second time returning, us (students) were greeted with a warming welcome from the university's senior students, lecturers and student counsellor. During our first few days, we were taken on a highly informative city tour of the both historical and progressive side of Shanghai. It was overall a unique and pleasant experience! Initially, we were warned that the classes were going to be highly intensive, but despite this I personally find the material learnt to be extremely rewarding. Being immersed into the Chinese language and society only naturally helped my ability to intake the authentic local speech and allowed room for improvement of my own ability to communicate with the surrounding people, and therefore make many friendships (even international ones!) I cannot thank Shanghai University enough for the programme provided for international students, and for Maynooth University for organising the year abroad. Shanghai University is one of the top public universities in Shanghai. It was ranked 422 in the 2023 QS World University Rankings. Our students can attend Shanghai Uiversity as part of the study abroad programme organised by Maynooth University International Office.
