Why study Economics
An understanding of Economics is essential for thinking about many of the issues confronting society today, such as unemployment, taxation, globalisation, inequality and pollution.
The Department of Economics, Finance and Accounting at Maynooth University offers a vibrant environment for learning. Members of the Department are regularly published in leading international journals and also play an influential role in economic development at a local and national level. We are passionate about Economics, and convey this enthusiasm through our teaching and research.
The Department is particularly strong in Financial Economics. Finance is a branch of Economics that is growing in importance in terms of employability and Maynooth’s Economics graduates are particularly well-placed to take advantage of this growth.
You don’t have to have any previous knowledge of economics to study with us, only an interest in how the economy works and a desire to know more.
