Why study Economics

An understanding of Economics is essential for thinking about many of the issues confronting society today, such as unemployment, taxation, globalisation, inequality and pollution.

The Department of Economics at Maynooth University offers a vibrant environment for learning. Members of the Department are regularly published in leading international journals and also play an influential role in economic development at a local and national level. We are passionate about Economics, and convey this enthusiasm through our teaching and research.

The Department is particularly strong in International Trade, Industrial Organization, Game Theory, Labour Economics and Macroeconomics.

Our high-quality postgraduate programmes in Economics and Economic and Financial Risk Analysis provide excellent training for the many job opportunities that exist for professional economists, both in Ireland and abroad.
