Number of Maynooth students studying abroad has increased by 30%

Maynooth University undergraduate students have the opportunity to study abroad for one semester or a full year as part of their degree. The International Office facilitates student exchanges throughout the world; our students can choose from nearly 180 partner institutions, including Boston College, LMU Munich, Notre Dame Australia, Nanyang Technological University in Singapore and University of Toronto.

Studying abroad forms an integral component of the undergraduate learning experience within the new curriculum. Through this type of experiential learning, students can improve their language proficiency and develop skills that help them to stand out from the crowd. In the academic year 2016/2017, we have 200 students studying abroad as part of their degree, which is a 30% increase from last year. Most of our students study in Germany, Spain, France and US. However, non-traditional destinations such as Slovenia, Norway or Canada are becoming increasingly popular.

Students who return from their study abroad stay often say that it was one of the best decisions they have ever made. They describe their experience as unique, challenging and enriching, both academically and personally. According to a large-scale survey conducted by the Institute for the International Education of Students, the study abroad experience positively influences students' employability, world-view and self-confidence.

The International Office promotes studying abroad to our students through various channels, including the Open Day, Orientation, Study Abroad Fair every November, information sessions in the Library, in-class talks, Moodle and social media.
