Field-based strength testing for injury prevention, rehabilitation and performance in sport
Ever wondered how the world’s best athletes are tested to assess their risk of injury and readiness to perform in sport? Come along and find out by chatting with staff from our newly established Department of Sport Science and Nutrition who will provide a live demonstration of some field-based strength testing devices used in research related to sports injury and athletic performance.

Celibacy in Irish Women's Writing, 1860–1950s
This event includes a presentation by Dr. Paul Fagan, of his Irish Research Council Postdoctoral Project, 'Celibacy in Irish Women's Writing, 1860–1950s'. The paper will discuss the project’s main subjects (Frances Power Cobbe, Ethel Colburn Mayne, Elizabeth Bowen, Kate O’Brien, Teresa Deevy) and findings to date. Dr. Fagan will also launch the project’s website and podcast series which accompanies the monograph he is preparing. The event will be chaired by Prof. Moynagh Sullivan.

Launch of the Digital Library
"MU Library has been engaged in a project to develop a Digital Library in order to provide online access to some of wonderful collections of Maynooth University and St Patrick’s Pontifical University. We are delighted to launch the Digital Library during Research Week 2023 on Monday 23rd October 2023 from 1-2pm. Join us for a light lunch in Training room E, MU Library and hear about the importance of access to online collections for research and to view the Digital Library itself. These are the collections/part-collections we plan to have available in the Digital Library on launch day. Circus of Climate Horrors (2023)
The Geography department would like to host our science outreach project: The Circus of Climate Horrors. This would involve setting up a tent (3 x 4.5m - Attached is a photo of the tent from a recent event), and three interactive games: the ‘Wheel of Global Warming’ (spinning wheel), the ‘Great Wall of Atmospheres’, an interactive and competitive ball game, and a flood map of the UK and Ireland under a 2°C warming scenario. We don't need any electricity and we will provide a full risk assessment.

MU Hamilton Institute Graduate Student Talks
The Maynooth University Hamilton Institute is bridging the gap between mathematics and a wide variety of disciplines ranging from climate change and DNA computing to molecular dynamics and robotics. The week-long series of graduate student talks aim at delivering insights of the variety of research undertaken by PhD students and postdocs of the institute.
