A team from the Department of Sociology have just published a report, 'Time Well Spent?  A survey of student online media usage', which details first year Sociology students’ social media usage for personal and educational purposes.

Speaking at the launch, Professor Mulkeen, the Registrar and Deputy President, noted that the findings pointed to extremely high levels of online communication between students and their peers.  He noted that Universities are places which encourage people to communicate with each other and whether that was face to face over a cup of coffee or through instant messaging the same objective is achieved.
